Andy is a Macon High School graduate.  After graduation, Andy attended the University of Central Missouri where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. From there, she went on to receive her law degree from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka, KS.

Before devoting her career to EdCounsel and public education, Andy served as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in Audrain County and, for eight years, she worked in Columbia, Missouri, as Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Boone County.

Andy prosecuted thousands of cases, ranging from misdemeanor assaults to first-degree murder. Along with her many jury trials, she has also successfully argued cases in both the Eastern and Western District Court of Appeals. She is well-versed in effectively managing media inquiries and public relations aspects of controversial cases. One of Andy’s most high-profile cases received national media coverage on “48 Hours” and “Snapped”.

Andy and her husband Jeff have two daughters, Hattie and Clara, who both attend Columbia Public Schools, where Andy is a member of the PTA.  The Hayes family is also actively involved in their church community and especially enjoy attending events there around the holidays.
